The timelines for exam candidates regarding applications and CPA exam score transfers are below. The VBOA tries to meet all processing times; however, there may be circumstances that prevent specific processing timelines from being met. Contact boa@boa.virginia.gov with any questions.
Exam application
Exam candidates apply to take the CPA exam by logging in online and creating an account. Review the exam application steps before applying to take the exam.
Processing time: 2-3 weeks after the last transcript was received.
Candidates will receive an email notification from the VBOA regarding eligibility status.
Exam score transfer
Candidates can request a transfer of exam scores to another state after passing the Virginia CPA exam. The non-refundable exam score transfer fee is $25.
Processing time: 7-10 business days from the date the $25 check was received.
Please allow for an additional 1-2 weeks for the receipt and processing of the scores by the corresponding board of accountancy before requesting the VBOA send an additional document.
