The Virginia Board of Accountancy provides information for CPA firms needing to become licensed in Virginia and how to annually renew the firm license. Information is available for firms located in Virginia and outside Virginia as well as how to remain peer review compliant.
Any firm using the CPA title, or providing attest services, compilation services or financial statement preparation services to persons or entities located in Virginia must hold a Virginia firm CPA license unless the firm’s principal place of business is not located in Virginia.
The VBOA provides a listing of all new Virginia firm licenses since 2011.
.cpa domains
As of Sept. 1, 2020, the American Institute of CPAs and CPA.com launched .cpa, a new, verified, internet domain exclusively for the CPA profession. Only licensed CPAs and firms can sign up for this new top-level domain. A domain refers to the last letters of an email address or website name. Some of the most commonly used domains are .com, .org and .edu.
CPAs and firms will need to go through a verification process by the AICPA to ensure their current Active status before using the domain. The verification approval will take place at the initial domain purchase and application, and when the domain is renewed.
