Susan Quaintance Ferguson, CPA

1st term, expires June 30, 2019

 

Susan Quaintance Ferguson, CPA, of Harrisonburg, received a BBA from the College of William & Mary with a concentration in accounting and a MS in accounting: tax consulting, from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Since 2006, Ferguson has been a lecturer in James Madison University’s School of Accounting. She earned the JMU Dean’s Impact Award in the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years for Outstanding Contributions to the College of Business and its Stakeholders. She was selected as a JMU College of Business Foundation Faculty Fellow for 2016-17 and 2017-18, and was recently reappointed for 2018-19 and 2019-20 academic years for exemplifying the values of the College of Business: integrity, intellectual growth, community, engagement, and innovation/collaboration. She received the Fall 2017 College of Business Accenture Professional Service Award. Ferguson was also selected to serve as a Faculty Fellow for JMU's Ethical Reasoning in Action for 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years and was recently reappointed for the 2018-19 academic year.

Ferguson’s past professional experience includes working in public accounting for a large national firm, for a local firm, and serving as Principal of Susan Q. Ferguson, CPA. Additionally, she served in industry as Controller for a multi-office law firm.

She has been a licensed CPA since March 1998. She is a member of the American Accounting Association, Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, the AICPA and served on the VSCPA Board of Directors from 2012-15. She serves as the educator member on the VBOA and is an active participant on the VBOA’s Enforcement Committee. She also served as Treasurer on the board for AVA Care of Harrisonburg, a local nonprofit, from April 2012 to March 2018.
